A test worth taking

The South African Department of Health has recently launched an HIV Counselling and Testing (HCT) campaign, with the hopes of testing 15 million South Africans by June 2011.

Minister of Health, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi is calling on South Africans to get tested so that they know their status.

Getting tested for HIV may seem daunting and it is normal to be afraid of testing positive. It takes courage to know your status, but once you do, you will be empowered to make the right choices for your future and avoid infecting others.

With the right treatment, good nutrition and healthy lifestyle choices, many HIV-positive people live long and productive lives, so it’s important to take responsibility for managing your health.

Speak to your medical scheme about HCT, how it works and where to get tested.

You don’t need to face this on your own.
